Rising main & force main assessment

Sewer rising (or force) mains are high-risk assets. Consequence of failure is high for both operational and environmental reasons, and they are notoriously challenging to inspect, assess and renovate. Downley Consultants has significant experience in this field. Our proven and effective approach comprises:

  • Screening strategy for inspection:
    • Detailed review of rising main profile and operating characteristics to identify high-risk sections of the line due to septicity, aerobic/anaerobic conditions, etc.
    • Detailed review of pump characteristics and operation
    • Internal inspection in live main to locate defects or indicators – for example gas pockets
    • External inspection at defect locations to measure and characterise them
  • Condition assessment as for other pipelines based on audit & inspection data.
  • Rehabilitation or repair solutions driven by risk and operational constraints.
  • Innovative solutions are deployed to achieve renovation with minimum operational disruption.
